Information on visitor’s tax/stay tax: The visitor’s tax for boats is calculated according to the length of the boat and the length of stay. It can be booked for 3 days, 8 days, 15 days, 30 days, 90 days or a whole year. The tourist tax must be paid before the first overnight stay on board. For example, if you are planning 20 nights on board, you can book 15 + 8 days. The tourist tax applies as a lump sum for all crew members, regardless of the actual number of people on board. Current overview of tourist tax Croatia. The tourist tax can only be paid online. Since 2021 it is also possible to pay the tourist tax by persons on board and period. Please refer to the Croatian tourism website for more information.

The boat registration / vignette / permit is obligatory. The fees must be paid before you set off into Croatian coastal waters for the first time. If you are staying overnight in a marina or a Croatian town harbour, the operators or local authorities may ask for proof of payment. During an inspection on the water, customs officials or the Kapetanija can see all the payment details in the centralised billing system and thus trace the payments made.

Today, the permit is still often referred to as a vignette or boat vignette.

Whereas in the past you received a sticker from the relevant harbour office after paying the fees, which was perforated to indicate the valid period, today only a receipt is issued. Payment is checked online via the Ministry’s central system during an inspection. The same applies to the payment of tourist tax for overnight stays on board.
